We are sad to announce the death of Freddie Woodbridge, a long-standing member of Cookham
Dean Cricket Club and a former Trustee. Freddie was born in April 1930 in Cookham Dean, living as a
child in Royal Cottages on the old Cricket Common. His father was employed by Walter Frost in his
fruit growing business and was known as a good footballer for Cookham Dean FC. A sporting family,
Freddie played in the reserves for the football club, but found more success playing for the Cricket
team, playing in those days outside his front door on the common. He became the wicket keeper for
the 1st XI in the 1950s and held on to the job for 25 years. Once he stopped playing he was a long standing supporter watching play at the club in all weathers up to last summer. He was also a very active member of the darts team for many years only retiring two years ago. Overall he was a member of the club for over 75 years, more than half of the club's existence.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia. In 2014 they had their photograph in the Advertiser
as they celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. He met her at the Jolly Farmer when he
was 22, and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage. They have one son Paul who many will know
from the club.
Freddie’s funeral will be held on Wednesday 9th March at Amersham Crematorium at 12.15.
All are welcome back to the Cricket Club from 1.30
