After a comfortable nine wicket win over Wraysbury, the 1st XI have won the Berkshire section of the National Village Cup. This means they will face Hampshire winners Sarisbury Athletic in the last 32, who we will face at home on Sunday (16th August), 1pm start. It would be great to see as many members as possible supporting the team.
We were knocked out at this stage in 2014, 2017 and 2018 so will looking to match the achievement of 2016, where we eventually went out narrowly at the quarter final stage.
Elsewhere within the club, we are fielding four Saturday league sides again and regularly fielding at least two Sunday XIs (and on a few occasions three). After four matches in this short season (which has had one weekend washed out) the 1st XI are 7th in Division 1, the 2nds 4th in Division 4b, the 3rds 5th in Division 8b and the 4ths 8th in Division 9b.
With a lot of regular players missing this season this has provided increased opportunities for our younger players, a number of whom have now played in the 1st and 2nd XIs while others play important roles in the 3rds and 4ths. These opportunities should aid their development ahead of a more competitive league season in 2021 when it is hoped we'll be able to enjoy a full season with promotions to aim for!
