Cookham Dean Cricket Club News story

THREE WINS OUT OF THREE FOR SATURDAY SIDES

28 Jul 2009

All 3 Cookham Dean lineups picked up wins on Saturday, with the 1sts and 2nds enjoying particuarly crushing wins.

The 1st team ended their winless streak with a comfortable win over bottom of the table Marlow Park. The Dean batted first and racked up 260-4 dec from 50 overs. Tom Bibby struck his second century of the season while Ben Millar and Clive Lambden both made 50s. In response Marlow Park never really got going and the home side eventually overwhlemed them by skittling them for 99. This 25 point win eases worries of relegation and potentially even opens things up for a late promotion charge.

The 2nds strengthened their hold on the top of the Division 6A by hammering Caversham and Redingensians by 228 runs. Jake Richardson made 71 but the hero of the batting performance was Arun Brar who struck 100 as Cookham made 292-6. Caversham were never likely to threaten such a huge target as Richard Bibby claimed his 3rd consequtive 6fer while Nick Borland picked up four wicket as they skittled the home side for 64.

The 3rds enjoyed a closer victory by the margin of 35 runs over Theale and Tilehurst. Cookham batted first and after a top order collapse a lower order fight back meant that they eventually posted a respectable 183 all out. Mark Jones top scoring with 41. In reply T&T lost a couple of early wickets meaning that they were always well behind the rate. Wickets were shared around with Jonathan Gay and Greg Holmes taking three each and Mark Jones taking two as Theale were all out for 148.

Meanwhile on Sunday both sides suffered defeats. The Sunday 1sts lost comfortably to Taplow by seven wickets. Cookham batted first and made 208 for 6, Tom Bibby, Mike Cutting and Dave Brooks all making 50s. In reply, Taplow were never really in much trouble as Perrera's century guided them to victory.

A poor fielding performance saw the Sunday 2nds lose to Jordans Taverners by two wickets in the rain at Sear Green. A typically brutal innings of 67 from Mike Maroudas was the main highlight of the Dean innings of 219-7 while Aaron O'Donoghue made 38. O'Donoghue and Paul Taylor quickly ripped out the Jordans top order but this brought Kumar and C. Yolland to the crease who both made half centuries, taking the game away from the Dean. A canny spell from Rory Millar looked to swing the game back in favour of the away side but Jordans eventually sneaked home with just over an over to spare.
