Cookham Dean Cricket Club News story

WEEKEND ROUND-UP

22 Jun 2009

This weekend saw mixed results for the Dean with three wins and two defeats for their five teams.

The first XI lost to Hayes at Ricketts Field on Saturday after posting 266-4 on a flat batting wicket. George Edlin made 76 while Clive Lambden scored 67 not out. Sav Gandesha, Ben Millar and Tom Bibby also made useful contributions. Hayes won by five wickets with around five overs to spare thanks 87 from Ramneth and 102 from Sawant. A flurry of wickets towards the end allowed Cookham to pick up a couple more bonus points, Gandesha claiming four wickets in total. The Firsts stay in 3rd place in a tight Division 3B table.

Despite missing a number of key players the 2nd team cruised to an easy victory over Aldershot 2s. This was largely thanks to a remarkable spell of bowling from Aaron O'Donoghue. The former Stokenchurch player proved too much for the Aldershot batsmen as he bowled a series of unplayable deliveries. He finished with the stunning figures of 8-36 from 16 overs. Dave Brooks and Roy Millar gave the away side a strong start and they were 70-1 at tea with Brooks departing for a well made 31. Millar carried on however and brought up his first half century of the season, finishing on 60 not out and Cookham passed their target with ease.

The 3rd XI put up a decent fight at Greys Green despite missing a number of playes. They were bowled out for 98 with Daragh Doyle and Aden Sehota the main contributors. Richardson and Partridge soon reduced the home side to 1-4, giving Cookham the chance of an unlikely victory. A hamstring injury for Partridge however meant that he was out of the attack after taking 3-0 from 2 overs and Greys Green eventually won by 5 wickets.

The Sunday 1s won a close game away at Stoke Green. Stoke Green batted first and posted 232-9 with the wickets shared around. Jamie Andrews, Ian Mettler and Tom Bibby taking two each. A solid innings of 85 from Bibby provided the foundation for the Cookham run chase while Mike Cutting struck a quick 47. A crucial innings of 46 not out from Jamie Andrews however proved crucial as he guided his side to victory by one wicket.

The Sunday 2nds won by 26 runs at home to Harwell International with a decent team performance. A number of batsmen made useful contributions with Jake Richardson (42), Patrick Castleden (40) and Andy Millar (35) the major contributors to the final total of 225-9. Harwell got off to a slow start which meant that victory was always likely to be unlikely. Jake Richardson claimed four wickets, while Rory Millar and Lester Fitzpatrick each claimed two each.
