The club is sad to announce that John Mellor has passed away.
John Mellor played for the Club for many years on his return from Africa in the early 1980s.
He was an attractive middle order batsman who Captained the Second X1 for a while. His batting was eccentric with pads which never seemed to fit and he once called his partner for a second run which was completed, only for both umpires to call one short. His son Tom also played for the Colts and adults at the Club.
Previously Chairman and Secretary, he enthusiastically supported the Club in volunteering for club activities, groundwork, umpiring, behind the bar, tea rota and was a Supper Club Stalwart. He was a great fund raiser for the club organising Rock nights, selling raffle tickets and running the 200 Club.
Keen member of the Club’s Golf Society where he invented “ The rolling gimmie” claiming the pot when the ball had rolled past the hole.
He will be greatly missed by all for his quirky sense of humour and he always had the best interests of the Club at heart.
Our thoughts are with Julia and their sons Tom and Sam.
The memorial service will be held at 2.30pm on Monday the 19th of September at Milton Chapel, Chilterns Crematorium (Amersham). John said wear any colour. Which will be followed by a Celebration of Life at CDCC from 4.30.
