DEAN DRAW BRAYWOOD IN VILLAGE CUP!

11 Feb 2009

An old rivalry looks set to be reignited and the phrase 'ding-dong derby' is echoing around the streets of east Berkshire after Cookham Dean were drawn at home against Chilterns League side Braywood in the first round of the village cup. Recent years saw a number of memorable clashes between the two sides, with the 2006 season seeing both sides gain promotion. The match is to be played on the 19th April and with many players back from University for the Easter Holidays, Cookham skipper Pres Patel should be able to pick a strong side for this fixture.

If the Dean win this game they will face the difficult prospect of a trip to Thames Valley 3A side Purley, who have got a bye in the first round. Like Cookham they moved into the Thames Valley League in 2008 and gained promotion in their first season. Last season the two sides met in pre-season and Purley ran out comfortable winners.
