DEAN'S HOPES OF PROMOTION STILL ALIVE

25 Aug 2008

On Saturday, the first team beat Finchampstead 3s by 5 wickets to keep up hopes of promotion. They now lie 4th, just 3 points off the second promotion spot. Cookham restricted Finch to 142-9 due to tight bowling by Pres Patel and Sav Gandesha, and despite a poor start in reply, a good 6th wicket partnership between Christian Austin and Clive Lambden saw Cookham home with plently of overs to spare.

The second team lost by 3 wickets away at Teddington Town 2s, although they look to have secured their place in division 6 for another year. The highlight was Paul Farnborough's innings of 97 not out out of Cookham's total of 194. This innings, following on from his century at White Waltham last Sunday, means that he is now close to a return to the first team.

The Sunday 1s had a disappointing day in the 6-a-side tournament at Holyport, finishing in 4th place. Elsewhere, there was a 5-wicket win for one of the friendly sides against Chalfont St Peter and a disappointing 64 run defeat to a strong Gerrards Cross side.
