WEEKEND GAMES ROUNDUP
12 Aug 2008
Both of Saturday's games were unsurprisingly called off after constant rain made grounds all over the Thames Valley League unplayable. The abandonment was particuarly frustrating for the 1st team as they were looking to defeat club-in-crisis Chalfont St Peter in their quest for a late promotion charge.
A number of Saturday players went on a pub crawl instead...
Sunday saw one abandonment and two victories for the Dean. At Royal Household, the 1st team posted 148-8 with Ben Millar and Mark Fish the main contributors. The rain came just two overs into the home side's innings.
At Ricketts Field, Cookham beat Old Berkeley by 19 runs after an astonishing collapse by the visitors. This came after Cookham had posted a decent total of 215-4 from their 40 overs, Dave Brooks scoring 100 not out after surviving numerous catching chances. Aaron O'Donoghue (39) and some lusty blows from John Gay (24 not out) were the other contributions to the score. Rudd (67) and Loughlin (41) appeared to take the game away from Cookham but Rudd's departure triggered the collapse. A canny spell from Mark Anderson (4-26) was the highlight of the bowling performances while there were also wickets for Arun Brar, O'Donoghue and Sawan Gandesha.
At British Airways, Cookham finally managed to avenge the five previous defeats from earlier on in the season. Cookham made 184 for 5 from their overs with half centuries for Rory Millar and Chris Kellaway. Sheikh's innings of 78 dominated the BA response but he received minimal support from his team-mates. Paul Taylor and Rory Millar each picked up two wickets while the usually erratic pace of Jake Richardson claimed 3-42. Cookham eventually won by 12 runs in the gloom.
