MIXED WEEKEND FOR SATURDAY SIDES

21 Jul 2008

The Saturday sides enjoyed contrasting fortunes at the weekend in their Thames Valley League contests.

The Firsts were beaten comprehensively by Slough 3s.Slough made 238-8 from their 52 overs, Chris Nunn the pick of the home side's bowlers with 1-30 from 9 overs. The innings did see a first though, as Pres Patel claimed a slip catch. Cookham's out of form batsmen had little answer to the seam bowling of Uddin who claimed 5 wickets. This included a hat-trick that left Cookham 20odd-5 as the middle order of Butt, Lambden and T. Bibby. The Dean were eventually skittled for 121. This defeat dents the 1sts promotion challenge as they drop to 6th in TVL 4a. This is a tight league however and they are by no means out of the running but desperately need to string some wins together soon.

The 2nds won comfortably against high-flying Royal Ascot with Richard Bibby and Shaun Glover the stand out performers. Ascot's innings was in tatters at 20-6 but Coster (57) and the rest of the lower order helped guide the home side to 187 all out. Bibby took 6-33 from 16 overs. Cookham's top order of Jake Richardson and Rory Millar both made 30s and it was left to Shaun Glover (61)to guide his team to a six wicket win. This leaves the 2nds 6th in TVL 6a.
