Match report We opened our U19 Challenge league campaign with a tough tie against last year's U19 Challenge winners Binfield. Hopes were not sky high when it was realised that captain Milligan had spent the previous evening in Ayia Napa and the day at Lord's, returning hero George Keylock was playing in his first match of the year, and late call-up Jalf arrived at the last minute straight from playing in a different match. The skipper raised the team's spirits by winning the toss and elected to bat and George raised them higher by showing no signs of rust, hitting his second ball in cricket this year for four and his sixth for a mighty six. Giddy from his success, though, he tried to reverse sweep the next ball and got stumped. Yesh and the skipper then fell cheaply and by the end of the 5th over of the powerplay it looked a bit like an England score at 23-3 and it was becoming apparent the wicket was a tricky one with variable bounce. Alfie then put together partnerships of 17, 19 and 13 with Jalf, Lash and Sam before falling for 20. Sam then took up the running, eventually top-scoring with 21. We did well to bat out the overs and the final score of 104-8 felt light, but not a disaster.

In the first over of Binfield's reply, Jalf immediately troubled the batters with his swing and induced a panicky run-out of the dangerous Negus without facing a ball. Matt then got their captain to nick behind in a hostile opening wicket maiden. A further maiden from Jalf and Binfield were 1-2 after 3 overs and eventually made it to the end of the powerplay on 18-2. Harry and Ethan then took up the reins and bowled in good areas so that, although the scoring rate went up a bit with the powerful middle order starting to hit some boundaries, they also took wickets at regular intervals as the variable bounce created opportunities. All the chances were taken, including Alfie taking a sharp chance behind while standing up and Sam grabbing a one-handed catch at full stretch. George then came on to bowl and, again, showed no sign that this was his first game of the year. Decent pace and a top of off stump line brought him 2 wickets for only 7 runs in 3 overs, leaving it to a returning Jalf to mop up the final two wickets in two balls and complete a fine 29 run victory.

Congratulations to the team on a great display tonight. Man of the match award to Sam for top-scoring with 21 and taking a great catch but there were many heroes on the pitch today.
