Match report A good win against a spirited and disciplined Boyne Hill team and a match played in very good spirit. The match was played on the Astro - a bouncy but fair surface - at the Odney Club and the legside (for right-hand batters) boundary was extremely long.

Boyne Hill won the toss and put Cookham into bat. Lashvein and Guy got Cookham off to a great start, striking the ball well and running aggressively between the wickets. After Lashvein retired, Sam came in and immediately started what seemed to be a personal project to see if he could reach retirement by running every single run rather than bothering with boundaries (the lazy option) - an exhausting project but one he eventually completed! With solid hitting from Guy, James and Jack we reached a formidable 147 for 3 off our 20 overs.

Accurate bowling at the start of the Boyne Hill innings kept the runs down and wickets fell regularly. Late call-up William then produced a masterful spell of naggingly accurate deliveries to take 3 wickets for just 2 runs and reduce Boyne Hill to 48 for 5 at the halfway stage of their chase. It was an innings of two halves though, as we failed to take another wicket and Adi, Zidane and Vedant fought back valiantly. In the end the asking rate was too much for Boyne Hill to overcome and they ended on 131 for 5. A win for Cookham by 16 runs and a good start to the league campaign. Man of the match was William Hancock.
