Hurley v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Under 15 on Thu 12 Aug 2021 at 17:00
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report What is believed to be the first ever Hundred format match by a Cookham Dean side was played at Hurley in very good spirits between the two teams. Before the match, nervous match officials fretted over the rules and how to make scoring apps and scoreboards compliant with the new format. Kulvinder Singh and Dan Kulkarni bravely volunteered to share the umpiring duties for Cookham.

Hurley won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision vindicated as Hurley raced to 64-0 at the halfway 50 ball stage. After the top 3 all retired, however, the middle order found it harder going against tight Cookham bowling and eventually they reached 99 off their 100 balls, setting a neat target of 100 from 100 balls to win. In reply Cookham lost Rugved to a running mix-up early on and later Luke was out first ball swiping across the line (more on that later) but otherwise the batters made great progress with DJ, Lashvein, Tom and John all retiring to take us to the brink of victory. With just 5 runs needed off the final 20 balls and 8 wickets in hand we then suffered a mini-collapse as the boys decided it would be a great time to play ramp shots. Eventually though we got there with 10 balls to spare.

We then offered Hurley the chance for "double-or-quits" on a super-over (of the traditional 6-ball variety). Cookham won the toss and decided to bat. Tom, Luke and Lashvein put on 8 runs against the bowling of Billy, despite Luke once again being out first ball swiping across the line to achieve a "king pair" for the evening, to the great amusement of his school friends playing for Hurley and (regrettably) his teammates, relatives, spectators and match officials. I should note that Luke had a very good game bowling and fielding. In reply, Joseph and Eddie H also managed 8 runs off the bowling of DJ. A tie - time for a second super over!

Captain Tom bravely took the ball and bowled an excellent over of spin to Dylan and Haider. 3 dot balls were followed by 3 singles, to set a target of 4 to win. DJ was caught off the second ball of Freddie's over without scoring leaving us just one wicket from disaster, but John coolly stroked the next ball to the boundary to settle the super over in Cookham's favour.
