Maidenhead & Bray CC Under 19 v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Under 19 on Tue 03 Aug 2021 at 17:15
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Confidence was high going into this match as the top-of-the-table under-19's, strengthened by a rare appearance from Will Dempster, took on a Maidenhead & Bray side bruised from a recent thrashing by Royal Ascot.

Things didn't work out quite so easily though...

After a delayed start and with light clearly shaping to be an issue M&B won the toss and decided to bat. Their openers Thomas and Masih then got off to a good start, plundering 51 for no loss off the power play. Heads were drooping in the field, but then - in the ninth over - Frazer stuck out a hand to a fierce drive by Masih and took a superb grab. Momentum had shifted. In the next over Jalf dismissed Thomas and although keeper Vaja kept the scoring going over the second half of the innings it was at a reduced rate. With Tom achieving an excellent run-out with an underarm throw at one stump and Ollie inducing a pop-up catch from Vaja, the final score was 124 for 4. A challenging target in failing light, but not insurmountable.

Alfie and Taine got the reply off to a good start and looked in great touch. However in the third over disaster struck with two controversial LBWs awarded against first Taine and then the incoming Will. With both Alfie and Tom then falling soon after, things were not looking good at 34-4 at the end of the powerplay. The two James knuckled down though and curbed their natural attacking instincts in favour of quick 1s and 2s to put on a solid partnership of 61 runs. When Jalf was out caught behind though, we still needed 30 runs from the final 4 overs - a tough ask for Milligan and new batter (and late call-up) Matt in the near darkness. To the increasing excitement of the large away crowd though, they gradually chipped away at the target with some excellent running and then Matt having got his eye in found the boundary three times, including a big six to bring it home with two balls to spare.

The win leaves us top of the table (https://www.cdcc.co.uk/leaguetables/teamid_13506/Under-19.aspx) and needing a win in our final group game against Royal Ascot next week to clinch a play-off place.
