Match report The 2021 season came to an end with an entertaining match played out at Odney against local rivals Wooburn Narkovians.

Following the dreaded "vote of confidence" from the committee, the vast throngs of spectators were surprised to see that under fire Captain Isaac was not at the healm, leading to much discussion that his contract had finally been terminated. The fans were much relieved however to see "housewives favourite" James Taylor back in command however he unfortunately lost the toss and Wooburn elected to field.

Due to the late arrival of Greg ( amid rumours he had come straight from Smokie Joes) Mettler opened the batting with Brooksy and it became quite apparent early on that the pitch was a tad on the unprepared side with plenty of demons. Toby "Judas Escariot" Lemon exploited this and dismissed both openers early on with Rob getting an unplayable delivery which reared up and caught the glove. Lashvein came in and absolutely nailed a pull shot, unfortunately this went straight down points throat bringing the diminutive legend Greg Davis to the crease. Yeshua was out LBW for 3 and Wooburn were on a high sensing that another famous CDCC collapse were on the cards. They did not however bargain for the amazing partnership that was to unfold as in the in form teenage sensation DJ Singh hit a graceful 44 in partnership with Greg who absolutely bullied the bowling hitting a magnificient 131 not out to set the visitors a chase of 236.

In reply, Davinder and debutant Patrick "Paddy" Crowley took the new nut and Paddy struck early having skipper Newman caught behind in his first over................welcome to Cookham. Dolan (24) and Bhukari (47) batted well buit skipper Taylor sensing it was DJ's day brought him into the attack and he dismissed the gritty stalwart Dolan for 24 (Daddy took the catch) . This wicket brought Wright to the crease (which evoked painful memories of him smashing 150 not out several years ago) and another partnership was looking on the cards before DJ had Bhukari stumped for 47 just before drinks. Wright and Lemon then batted solidly before Wright was dismissed by Yesh and an excellent catch from Crowley. Yesh also picked up the wicket of "super stalwart" Richard Barker and the promising fightback from Wooburn was over. A special mention for Kashish who bowled briliantly and took 4 wickets to record her best Cookham figures, taking the last 2 in the 39th over to seal victory with Wooburn 59 runs short.

At the post match press conference Taylor was quick to quash the clamour to have him immediately reinstated as Friendly XI Captain and said that he has total faith in Isaac to continue in the role. Several of the players from both sides then had a pint in the Kings Arms and discussed what the hell they were going to do with themselves at the weekends between now and April next year.

It's been a long season, let's do it all again next year!
