Match report On a beautiful sunny and warm afternoon a rowdy (and unusually large crowd for the Sunday friendly team) gathered for a match against the Uxbridge Casuals.

Living up to their name, play started late as the opposition waited for some stragglers to turn up with one of their travelling supporters who’d not donned the whites before stepping in to make up the numbers.

With the regular and could be said much under pressure Sunday captain away on a romantic getaway, it was down to Rob Mettler to stamp his authority onto a team with a range of hangovers and abilities. Mettler wasted no time and with a collection of sublime back foot shots got of to a flyer. At around 10 runs an over Mettler (100*) and the Mighty & Modest Mike Maroudas (102*) slapped their way to a storming start before both sportingly retired.

After the 2 retirements, the innings continued to flow with Freddie N-B (26) playing some fine shots, but with a super ‘see-ball hit-ball’ 59* M.Dilley stole the show. Ben Ralphs and Milligan probably had more shots in Revs the night before but with 17 and 10 respectively Cookham blundered to 339.

In response Finlan (6 overs, 2-7) carried on his fine form with a storming 4 maidens in a row with most balls just a bit too good.
With continued captaincy nous and wanting to make a good game of it, Mettler choose the pedestrian paced Pateman (6 overs 2-15) to open at the other end. An embarrassingly easy dropped catch from butter fingers Dilley did not dampen spirits with Noel-Baker (2-4) carrying his all round solid performance.

Chipping in with his first wicket of the season Mike Rosevear bowled a couple of fine overs and after not batting the crowd got what they wanted with Dave Brooks rolling his arm over. The sadness was that his spell did not last long enough as he nicked the last wicket with his first ball.

Thanks to some handy glove work from the ever impressive Alfie Agar, Cookham kept things tight and a game played in good spirits ended with a 310 run win with time for a beer in the late afternoon sunshine.

The one question remains......what will Mr I Richardson have to offer in response next week!?!
