Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v Wooburn Narkovians on Sat 14 Sep 2019 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by three wickets

Match report Another thrilling encounter was played out at Ricketts field against local rivals Wooburn on Saturday. Buoyed by the non appearance of "nemisis super stalwart" Richard Barker, Skipper Taylor won the toss and elected to bowl, despite the blazing sun and several comparisons to "Nassar Hussein in Brisbane"!

Cookham made a bright start with Matt Dilley picking up both openers cheaply, however some belligerent hitting from Ben "Son of Stalwart" Barker got the Wooburn innings back on track until he was trapped LBW by Schoolgirls favourite George Keylock for 41. Bushnell batted really well for 99 not out and gave some tap to Taylor. He was backed up by the Stoic Dolan and Wooburn set a total of 225. Ollie Taylor and James Milligan bowled particularly well.....................bright stars for the future.

Following a delicious personalized tea from Country Stores which was notable for the additional bowl of cream to "customize" the levels on your scones ( tea ladies take note), Rob and Yesh strode to the middle full of confidence and ready to do battle. Despite brisk scoring from the home counties most "under utilized" batsman and best go kart driver in Maidenhead, Cookham's innings was not looking good as Yesh (6), Le Fleming (5) , Georgeous George (12) and Jessica (0) went cheaply however they had reckoned without the battling qualities J Taylor and he and Mettler put on 90 runs which swung the tide back in favour of the home team. Following the end of his "Captains knock" for 41, Taylor looked deep into the eyes of his replacement Ben Ralphs and felt confident that victory was a formality with 50 runs needed, however Ben was out for a duck and Taylor could only assume that it was his "data self" who had turned up rather than him! Mettler continued to bat well and after bringing up his ton unleased a flurry of boundaries before finally holing out for137, a truly magnificent dig. This left youngsters Milligan and Ollie to diligently see us home with young Ollie smashing a magnificent cut shot for four to take the plaudits.

Taylor was brimming with pride after the match but was unavailable for comment, apparently the ECB have heard about his 100% winning captaincy record this season and are interviewing him just in case it does not work out with Joe Root.
