Match report A good performance from the boys in the cup on Friday night, giving a strong Slough side quite a scare towards the end, but ultimately losing the tie.

After winning the toss we decided to bat. We lost Iwan early but the two Jameses then got us off to a solid start putting on 28 in 5 overs. Some accurate spin bowling from Ishaq and Sher (bowling with a broken arm!) tied us down in the middle overs, with only Will able to make significant progress. However some watchful defence saw us through the sticky patch and Will then shepherded the team through the rest of the innings, with notable support from Liam (a belligerent 12) and Samuel, who hit a big six. Reaching three figures with a final total of 100 felt important and gave us a sniff of defending it.

Slough got off to a flying start with their star batsman Sheridan Gumb hitting 50 off just 20 balls, which was tough on the early bowlers. When he retired, unable to return under cup rules, in the 7th over Slough were on 75 for 1 (effectively 2) and the contest looked to be over. But the rest of them struggled to make progress against tight bowling and fielding and wickets fell regularly. With the scores tied at 100 apiece they had their final two fit batsmen at the crease and the lad with the broken arm was nervously strapping on his pads. However they managed to find the final run they needed and ran out winners by 3 wickets.

Well done to all the bowlers, who spread the wickets around, and to all for a good fielding display. Particular mentions to Matt who put a 19-run first over behind him to come back with a maiden, to Samuel for taking a high catch in the outfield very calmly and confidently, and to Oli for a great piece of fielding to prevent the winning run being scored and achieve a run-out instead.

No shame in losing to a strong Slough side and good grounds for optimism in the coming league campaign.
