Hartley Wintney v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI on Sun 06 May 2018 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 59 runs

Match report An entertaining game was played at the Police College ground on Sunday with Cookham Dean picking up another win under the benevolent leadership of "Fuhrer" James Taylor. The day did not start well as Taylor had given out the wrong postcode and everyone got into a flap trying to find the place..........we believe Tony Cairns is still driving around the Basingstoke area in his whites s he did not turn up and has not been seen since. Batting first Cookham lulled the oppo into a false sense of security by reversing the normal batting order and ("Spent Force") Dave Brooks, Sahan, and Jess went cheaply. This brought a nervous looking Simon D'Ardenne to the crease and as his team mates on the sideline prayed for an early dismissal, he was undone first ball swiping at a full toss and trudged off to ringing echos of laugher . Taylor than played an innings that can only be described as "maximus gribbliness" as he swiped at thin air and edged the ball three times. After getting hit in the nuts with a slow full bunger he was finally put out of his misery by the accurate Ford for 3. A superb partnership between Jonny (55not out) and Ben Millar(50not out) backed up by contributions from Rory and Aaron ensured that Cookham set a respectable total of 204 on a pitch that was certainly not easy. Following a scrummy tea, Cookham ambled out onto the field and both Rory and Taylor bowled excellent spells with Rory picking up two wickets and Taylor 1. The big Aussie overseas was looking dangerous so the skipper brought on Sahan who weaved his magic and snared hin C&B for 36. After that Hartley Wintney never really looked like challenging the target and Taylor saw an ideal opportunity to try and help D'Ardenne's shattered confidence by letting him bowl at the tail. after labouring away Simon finally got his man and the relief was palpable as he rolled around on the field in sheer ecstasy. Aaron bowled well (2-19) and the game was won when Simon bowled Broderick and we could all bugger off to the bar and have a chinwag with a really good bunch of lads..................( should be a regular fixture).
