Match report A tough but entertaining match was played between Cookham and Magdalen on sunday. The visitors won the toss and despite the freezing temperature got off to a flyer with Imran striking the ball cleanly. Mani made the break through but after some indifferent bowling and dropped catches, skipper Taylor decided to take matters into his own hands and bowled a fabulous spell which claimed 5 victims. Magdalen however got back on track and were helped by some pure pie throwing from Kumar and D'Ardenne, the latter looking as if his recent brush with Somalian sex pirates had not improved his game. Imran (82), Waseem (57not out) and Ibrar (62) ensured an imposing total of 258. The country stores tea was gobbled up with glee and as the thermometer continued to plunge Cookham set about the daunting task ahead. Both openers Farmer (2) and Jonny Gay (8) along with Kumar (1) were dismissed cheaply and it looked as if a disaster was looming however a brilliant knock from Mettler backed up by a stoic 50 from D'Ardenne ensured a competitive score was on the cards and possibly a victory. Unfortunately after Robb was dismissed for 86, the game was effectively over and Taylor (15 not out) along with Andy (boots senior) finlan (7 not out) saw out the overs and protected their averages with Cookham finishing on 192 for 6! Interviewed after the game Simon D'Ardenne had the following to say, "it was awesome watching Taylor in full swing today, since 2011 I have prayed every night that if i could be half the bowler he is I would be a very happy man, he is my hero, leader and inspiration"
