Ley Hill v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI on Sun 06 Aug 2023 at 1.30pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 196 runs

Match report Cookham Dean recorded an emphatic win over the good folks of Ley Hill on Sunday.

After an arduous journey made perilous by road closures, skipper Rob "heavy" Mettler promptly loss the toss and Cookham were put into bat. Brooksy and Yesh strapped them on with the former putting the "V" in village by announcing that he had forgotten his trousers and would be batting in his shorts, much to the amusement of Taylor who recorded the moment on camera.

Ley Hill's opening bowlers started well ( If not a little erratically) and snared the wickets of Brooks and Millard, both for 6. Early nerves were however abated as seasoned "Sunday Bully" Rob Metpost set about the bowling with disdain, hitting 6 fours and 4 "biguns" including one enormous effort that cleared the trees and landed in the neighbouring golf course. Yesh Bhatti (54) played an excellent if less brutal knock and both of them passed 50 before the wily skipper put an end to the carnage by bowling Metts (56) with the slowest delivery in cricketing history. Metts walked off grumbling and we were worried he was going to punch the keeper for "talking" during the delivery! Wickets tumbled including several run outs and Cookham were looking precarious at 156 for 7, however Taylor (24). Davinder (24 not out) and an excellent knock from Johnny O'Donnell (40) ensured the tail wagged, adding 100 and we finished with a respectable score of 262.

In reply, the home side never really got going and despite a hat-trick of dropped catches ( Davinder admirably not losing his cool as they were all from his bowling) Cookham made steady in -roads and the wickets tumbled. Aside from Khan ( 31) none of the home side could post a score. There were wickets for Davinder ( 3 for 17), Taylor (2 for 10), Singh (2 fer 12) with Jonny also chipping in with one. This set up Dave Brooks to bowl his "annual over" and of course take a wicket to seal a 196 run victory as the crowd went wild.

After making a comment that the Ley Hill skipper looked like "Brooksy would in 15 years time", the chaps settled in to have a beer and watch the Charity Shield penalty shoot out.

All in all it was a fun day out and the Sunday side looks in good shape for the rest of the season.
