Match report It was an exciting finish at a surprisingly chilly Odney Club last night. It looked like being an easy stroll, then it looked as if we'd snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, before finally the deal was sealed and revenge obtained against Pinkneys for our defeat on Sunday.

Winning the toss and batting first, Cookham made solid batting progress with Joel (23), Sam King (33*) and Johnny (27) making significant contributions. A late flurry of wickets slowed the scoring rate, but 133 for 7 still seemed a good target.

In reply, Cookham took wickets regularly with full straight balls on the stumps (something we weren't great at on Sunday) proving particularly effective. Jake bowled some lovely inswingers and was unlucky to only take one wicket. Rowan set a short-ball trap to remove the dangerous Ben Savage. Oscar bowled accurately giving nothing away. Sam Kennedy was the pick, bowling full on the stumps and picking up three wickets for only six runs. At the change of ends Pinkneys were 61 for 6 and it looked like an early finish was in prospect. However the bowlers found it trickier bowling into the wind from the other end with only Freddie finding any rhythm and Jack and Zain started hitting out, putting on 42 runs in just 3 overs suddenly Pinkneys looked capable of winning the match, maybe even favourites. A run-out of Zain, and the retirement of Jack brought some respite but when the 9th wicket went down, Jack returned to the crease with 20 runs needed and looked well capable of finding them. The target reduced to 8 runs when Jack left his partner to face one ball at the end of an over. Sensing an opportunity, Rowan took dead aim and hit the stumps -- a victory for Cookham by just 7 runs.
