Match report A first senior century from young batsman Patrick Castleden helped Cookham Dean Sunday 2nds to a comfortable 50 run victory over ten man Holyport at the weekend. Cookham batted first and got off to a rapid start as Mike Maroudas was promoted up the order and launched a brutal assault on the Holyport bowling. He smashed 47 before he was dismissed in the eighth over, sharing an opening partnership of 83 with Castleden. A collapse followed as the Cookham middle order offered minimal resistance but Castleden stood firm. Lester Fitzpatrick proved an able ally however as he struck a useful 31 at number eight to help guide Cookham to over 200. Castleden eventually brought up his chanceless century in penultimate over of the innings, hitting 18 fours and 2 sixes. He was dismissed in the final over for 110 as Cookham posted 255 all out. Hawkins was the pick of the Holyport attack with figures of 4-31.
Jamie Andrews dismissed Dunn early on but the partnership between Critchley and Foy looked to threaten the Dean’s total as they both brought up half centuries. Foy in particular was notably aggressive in his style. Maroudas however removed both as he put the skids on the Holyport innings with figures of 2-32 from his eight overs. This left Holyport with too much to do as the required run rate continued to rocket, wickets started to fall at regular intervals. Nine bowlers were used in total as Holyport ended up on 205 for 8 from their 40 overs, Aden Sehota claiming 3-20 towards the end. This was the Sunday 2nds fourth victory in a row and they will be looking for a similar to result at home to Greys Green at the weekend.
