Cookham Dean Cricket Club Under 13 Kestrels v Pinkneys Green on Wed 17 Jul 2019 at 18:00
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 17 runs

Match report Another enjoyable match against a very nice team. The practice the boys have put in and confidence they have gained from a couple of wins have made a big difference with everyone fighting to bat and bowl as much as possible, lots of good thinking about field placements and bowling strategies, sharp fielding and good support for teammates. If we can carry this into our last match we might even give Amersham a run for their money.

Captain Thomas won the toss and decided to bat. Pinkneys Green bowled a good line and length making scoring difficult with the ball lifting off a length on the Odney astro, but Lashvein (18) and Hanson (14) were up to the challenge, playing some lovely strokes to put 42 on for the first wicket through the first half of the innings, a great base from which to attack in the second half of the innings. James (26 n.o.) led that charge and with Harry (8) also hitting a couple of boundaries we reached 100 for 6 off the 20 overs. A defendable score on a tricky wicket, but with a fast outfield any loose balls would be expensive so we would need to bowl at least as well as Pinkneys had to stand a chance.

The boys, with all 11 bowling for the first time this season, very much delivered on that challenge - giving up only 9 runs in wides and no-balls compared to 23 by PG. Although PG kept up with the required run rate for a long while, they were frequently losing wickets and eventually this led to their scoring drying up in the face of tight bowling and they finished on 83 all out in the 17th over, a win for Cookham Dean by 17 runs. All the bowlers did well, but a particular mention to James (2 for 5) who registered our third double-wicket maiden in the last 2 games - usually this is a very rare event - Hanson (2 for 4) who made key breakthroughs at the top of the order, Thomas (2 for 4) and Sashank (1 for 2) who continued their good wicket-taking form, and Rugved (1 for 6) who has taken a wicket in every match he has bowled in. Also a mention for the sportsmanship of the PG captain and key batter, Toby, who admitted he had hit the ball that Harrison bowled and Jowan caught even though the cloth-eared umpire (ahem) didn't hear the nick.
