Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI v Teddington Town 2 on Sat 21 Jun 2008 at 1.30pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
Frankland Rips through Teddington
Cookham Dean 2nds picked up their third successive league win as they destroyed struggling Teddington Town at overcast Ricketts Field on Saturday afternoon. Following some heavy overnight rain, Shaun Glover won a crucial toss and had no hesitation in inserting the visitors. Nick Borland set the tone early on with a fine spell of left-arm seam but it was Ian Frankland who got the rewards as he tore into the Teddington batting line-up. After first removing Wilcox for a duck with Paul Farnborough taking a brilliant catch at short-leg Frankland continued to dominate the batsman as he took remarkable figures of 6-18 from 9 overs. Highlights of this spell included uprooting the middle stump of G.Holton and having S.Holton dismissed thanks to a stunning catch by recently axed first team player Sawan Gandesha at second slip. Teddington were reduced to 33-8 before Fuller and Deepchendeni combined to form a useful partnership of 38, the canny bowling of Andy Pett eventually broke this partnership however and Teddington were dismissed for a miserable 71.
Although Cookham lost Freeman early on, Mark Fish and Gandesha guided the home side to within touching distance of victory despite the useful seam bowling of Fuller and Deepchendeni. This partnership was ended when a mix-up between the two batsmen saw Fish run out. Some of Gandesha’s batting even suggested that his stay in the 2nd XI looked likely to be a short one as he made 33 without too much trouble. Paul Farnborough struck a couple of lusty blows in his short innings of 11 as he was bowled by a ball that kept low from Fuller. It was eventually left to Pett and Mike Maroudas to guide their side to an easy victory that sees Cookham move up to 5th in TVL Division 6A and send Teddington Town down to the bottom.
