Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v Wooburn Narkovians on Sat 14 Jun 2008 at 1.30pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean recorded their third consecutive victory in their debut Thames Valley League season on Saturday, defeating previously unbeaten Wooburn Narkovians in a thrilling encounter. Narks won the toss and elected to bat first on the Cookham wicket, which seemed a good decision for the first hour, as Tom Lees (31) and James White played well to move the score to 58-1 after just thirteen overs. However, Amit Patel (3-59)accounted for them both with good slower balls in his marathon twenty over spell, leaving Cooper and Rogers to consolidate the visitors position with a slow, but important 43 run fourth wicket partnership. However, Pres PAtel (6-26)introduced himself into the attack, which sparked a collapse, with Wooburn eventually being bowled out for 181 in 51 overs. In truth, it could have been alot worse for Narks, but the lower order batted sensibly to drag them up to a par score, whilst using up overs the hosts could have used.
Having lost Dave Brooks in the first over, Cookham looked in real trouble when the impressive MArk Tennant dismissed BEn Millar for 22, leaving Cookham in dire straits on 35-3. However, runs started to flow more quickly after James White was taken off, and in particular after the spin of Mo Aslam (2-38) was introduced. Clive Lambden, who took 28 balls to get off the mark, and Imran Butt (23) begun to get the innings back on track. With the required run rate rising to five an over, Lambden found able suppost from Tom Bibby and Christian Austin, before hitting Tennant to the boundary on the third ball of the last over to reach his half-century. Tennant finished by far the pick of the bowlers with 4-67 from 23.4 overs.
