East Woodhay v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Under 15B on Thu 11 Aug 2016 at 5pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Hi all, overall a strong batting performance saw us beat East Woodhay who posted an imposing 141 but we chased down in 18.1 overs. The boys fully deserved the result with all the hard work that they have been putting in at training and Saturday 4ths/3rds.

Onto the game itself:

As you know I'm more of a football guy and to use a football analogy, it was a game of 2 halves! our bowling and fielding (which has been quite strong) let us down a bit and a strong opening pair of East Woodhay put on a 99 run stand in just 13 overs. Henry Stalder made the vital breakthrough and when their other opening batsman retired, we started to assert some control in our bowling and sharpened up a bit on our fielding. Ted Salter (he had interrupted his holiday to play!) and had a great spell of 4 overs, 16 runs and 2 wickets and along with Henry/Will/Aaron the last 7 overs went for 42. Considering it was a small ground and very quick out field, this was a good effort and more in line with how we had been performing earlier in the season. Still 141 is a big score and a lot more than anything we have chased down before.

We got off to a poor start with Tom Garner being bowled by a good ball but Taine set the tone for the rest of the innings by hitting a couple of 4s in that first over. Kieran promoted Will to number 3 (he keeps telling me that it was an inspired piece of captaincy!) and between Taine and Will we reached 30 after 3 overs. They both got out trying to keep up the impressive run rate but had set a strong platform for the rest of the team to capitalise on. Kieran and Aaron played very well, combining strong running between the wickets and dispatching the poor balls to boundaries and put on 83 runs in 10 overs, and by the time Kieran got out on 49 we needed just 14 runs off 5 overs. Henry came at number 6 and won the game with a fine 4.

Well done to the boys and thanks to the parents who made the long journey to East Woodhay and helping out with lifts etc.

Would be good to see more of the boys at training on a Thursday and Friday as we have a final to prepare for :-)

We do know that the final will be played on the 11th September at 10.am. We don't know who against (I strongly suspect it will be Hurley) or where, Mark and I will send out details as soon as we have them as well as checking on availability.

To reach a County final is a fantastic result for both the boys and club and they should be very proud of their efforts this season, enjoy the rest of the holidays and see you all soon.
