Cookham Dean Cricket Club Under 15B v Slough on Fri 20 May 2016 at 6pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 61 Runs
Match report
It was always going to a tough match against Slough who traditionally have a strong team and are the current holders of the u15 County Cup. We also had a few boys missing for various reasons, but big thanks to the boys who turned out tonight, for quite a few it was their first game of cricket this year.
Slough scored an impressive 175 of their 20 overs but when you add in the number of wides we gave away, we actually ended up bowling 24 overs as we had 24 wides! this in effect is an extra 50-60 runs we gave Slough which had a massive bearing on the game. But the good news is that this, is an area of the game that we know we will get better at with more net practise.
Dan actually ensured that all 11 players had a bowl, Kieran probably being the pick of the bowlers with 21 coming off his 4 overs.
Slough had a strong bowlers opening their bowling but Kieran and Ethan made a steady start. But chasing 175 was always going to be a big ask and trying to keep up the run rate meant we lost wickets at regular intervals but there was some great batting and clean hitting from a number of the boys (Max and Tom in particular) and if we had been chasing a total of 120ish we would have made it a very close game.
As it was 175 was a bit too much and we ended up on 114 for the loss of 5 wickets.
So the batting was quite good but certainly some time needed in the nets for the bowlers and we could have probably shown a bit more urgency and awareness in the field. The good news is that all these skills can be practised if the boys are available on a Thursday night and of course the traditional Friday night net session.
Have a great weekend and hope the weather stays fine for Rock The Moor and the 4ths game tomorrow!
