Little Marlow v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI on Sat 09 Apr 2016 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 130 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean recorded a convincing 130 run victory over local rivals Little Marlow in the first game of the 2016 season. Despite the pitch looking soggier than one of Helen Millar's scones skipper Taylor won the toss and elected to bat. An excellent opening bowler in the shape of Umar accounted for a lethargic looking Isaac Richardson (2) early doors.Ritesh (8) hung around for a few overs, Richard Lucas (4) looked hung over and as if he was yearning for sunnier climes. Despite these set backs Manish (81) batted fantastically well and smashed played some great shots including a barrage of clean hit sixes, I think he has been watching far too much IPL cricket. The star of the show however was Rob Mettler and Maidenhead's premier Go Kart Driver was in imperious form as he bludgeoned 102 before retiring, there was a nice contribution from Nitesh (34 not out) but after Taylor was caught for 10 after an ugly display of "rat splatting", the rain came down and Dean declared with an over to spare.
Set 257 to win, Little Marlow never looked like being competitive, there were stubborn contributions from Shore (30 not out), Marie Junior (23) and Thistlewaite (16) but the innings tailed off and by the end of 30th over, everybody was losing the will to live as the match petered out as Marlow recorded total of 126. Debutant Usman Khalid looks a find and bowled some real pace, taking his first Cookham wicket with the last ball of his spell. Everybody bowled well, however the stars of the show were Tommy Beale (2-27) (who if he makes love to his wife as slowly as he delivers his leggies would never get out of bed), followed by Isaac Richardson who bowled possibly the most entertaining over in Cookham Dean history. He clung on to a diving Caught and Bowled before dispatching Cathley wth his second, and on the hatrick ball he promptly broke the nose of a South African.......absolute box office!! The day was filled with the usual good humoured banter, its great to be back playing cricket.
