Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
A high scoring and entertaining match was contested at Rickets Field between Cookham and the Chris Kelloway XI. After winning the toss, skipper Taylor decided to bat and on a scorching hot day the home side got off to a flier. Rob Mettler (28) went early after some big hits and then the spectators witnessed a marvellous 120 run partnership between Oli "fit mum" Dandridge (61) and James Taylor (53) which was only ended when Taylor managed to Splat a full toss limply to cover. Johnny Gay (41)and Arun Brar (63 not out) made the other notable contributions and with an extras column that looked like an Albert Einstein Physics equation, the home side set an impressive total of 295.
Following a delicious tea and news that West Ham had beaten Arsenal 2-0 at the emirates,Taylor was in buoyant mood and was certain that victory was a mere formality. However what followed was a quite brilliant innings by J Marshall (132) who smashed the ball to all parts and ruined the figures of every Cookham player who bowled at him. Marshall was ably supported by Nash (50) and Skipper Kelloway (49 not out) and even the great George Allard on a break from his one man mission to make India "part of the empire again" was powerless against such an onslaught and the visitors made the total with 3 overs to spare.
The game was conducted in a good spirit with lots of banter, Taylor was gracious in defeat although he could be heard muttering expletives about the pitch being "deader than Mother Theresa" as he left the ground.
Well done Chris and your team, it really was a fun day.......(if you were a batsman)!!
