Wooburn Narkovians v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI on Sun 02 Aug 2015 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 125 runs
Match report
A scratch Cookham Dean XI were comprehensively beaten by 125 runs at Wooburn on Sunday. The day started badly when skipper Taylor won the toss and (on the tenth anniversary of Ponting at Edgbaston) decided to put the home team into bat. I shall keep the summary of Wooburn's innings short but suffice to say that Hall (116), Dolan (32), A Barker (38), B Barker (51) and C Hall 44 not out made the most of some indifferent bowling, woeful catching and the short boundaries to rack up a juicy total of 318. Debutants Sam Patil and Luke Herbert both picked up wickets and there was one each for Taylor and Goodband.
After the usual fabulous Wooburn Tea, our team of journeyman pros set about the colossal task ahead however an out of sorts Simon D'Ardenne chipped a full toss to mid on early and then in true diva style stormed off the field, showered and sulked off in his car refusing to umpire, pay his match fees and insisting that his season was over.............see you next week Simon! The Patil brothers (a sunday version of the Mangat's) looked good but when Sach(11) and Sam (22) were dismissed, Cookhams task was looking a little grim. The sinking feeling that the game was up was upon us and despite several good knocks from Taylor (45), Herbert (34) and Smith (24) the innings petered out into a respectable yet turgid score of 193 and when Smith was finally out stumped after charging down the wicket swinging his bat like a scene from Gladiator, we could all finaly bugger off home.
