Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v Hurley on Sun 14 Jun 2015 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 273 runs

Match report The dawn of a new era under the stewardship of Sir Gregory Davis Abraham Lincoln was heralded by an incredible 273 run win over Hurley CC on sunday. Greg proved his credentials by winning a crucial toss and putting the home side in to bat (in true Dean style), however things did not go according to the bearded ones plans as both Barrat and Brooks were dismissed cheaply. This turned out to be fortunate as it brought Sim Mangat and Jake Richardson to the crease who proceeded to murder the bowling to all parts, both scoring impressive centuries and putting the game out of reach. There were useful additions from Michael "jellybaby" James (25), James Taylor (37 no) and Rob Mettlertarsal (24 no)to set the visitors the unlikely target of 352 to win.
Following a serene tea interval with no hint of the drama to follow Hurley made a reasonable start mainly due to some erratic bowling by John Smith who ran in as though he was steering his 747 through some extreme turbulence and a first over Jonathan Gay would like to forget. Adam Barrat (3for17) made the breakthrough bowling Kayani(25) and the wickets started to tumble as Smith rediscovered the cut strip and when Taylor was caught for 22 it became a procession. At this point in the report we need to make a special mention of the "no ball gate" incident where the slightly pompous umpire took offence at Smith's inclination to try and kill the batsman rather than dismiss them normally and it all got a bit heated as our friendly Aussie coughed "wanker" under his breath and Dave Brooks decided to add fuel to the fire by first having a go at Richard and then the umpire, to his credit Captain Greg calmed things down and Smith was revitalized, finishing up with figures of (3 for 39). Rob Metpost and Jonny Gay chipped in wickets and the last batsman was trapped by Taylor (who managed to get a bowl after sulking for 10 overs at the missed opportunity to hunt down the bunnies), Hurley were all out for a paltry 78.
In his post match interview, Skipper Davies said "Yeah, I was well pleased with the effort from the boys and I hope that Cookham Dean can see that I am the best man for the first team Captaincy. All the players can look forward to a free Jaegerbomb on my birthday in Revs next week". NB D Brooks was unavailable for comment, but is rumoured to be having anger management therapy later this week.
