Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v Beaconsfield on Sat 18 Jul 2015 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 93 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean secured their first win in three weeks at home against Beaconsfield on Saturday, and in the process moved back to the summit of the Thames Valley League.
Cookham racked up another big total, making 272-7 before declaring after just 48 overs, with Mark Lowden (94) anchoring the innings, with strong support from Godwill Mamhiyo (51) and Patrick Castleden (50). David Heavyside (1-37) and Nilesh Odera (0-45) were the most effective visiting bowlers in terms of stemming the flow of runs, but all others struggled.
Cookham took the old ball in reply, and young spinners Sim Mangat (1-32) and Castleden (3-52) made an early breakthrough apiece, before captain Chris Thomas and Nilesh Odera (64) combined to provide the first bit of resistance of the innings, before Castleden claimed the key wicket of Thomas for 14. Conor Thomas came and went cheaply, falling victim to a bizarre short leg catch, and when the introduction of Adi Rai (3-41) brought about the departure of Heavyside to a spectacular catch by Mangat just before the drinks break, it looked as though victory would be a formality for the Dean. However, Odera found support from 14 year-old debutant Ross Richardson, who looked completely at ease against the more experienced Dean bowlers, making 27 in 13 overs before he almost surprisingly became Rai’s second wicket of the day, falling to a sharp short-leg catch by captain Ben Millar, one of three for him on the day. From that moment, Beaconsfield folded as Mamhiyo (3-35) mopped up the tail in quick time, leaving Cookham victors with five overs remaining.
Cookham travel to in-form Yateley, who have won six of their last eight since losing at Ricketts Field in May, on Saturday.
