Monks Risborough v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI on Sun 04 May 2014 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 46 runs

Match report The Sunday 1st XI got their season off to a successful start with a 46 run victory over Monks Risborough.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, the CDCC top order found themselves grafting in typical early season conditions, with plenty of assistance on offer for the seam bowlers on a sluggish and uneven track which was exacerbated by a very stodgy outfield. Openers D'Ardenne & Millar got the innings off to a solid if uninspired start before the former, frustrated with his inability to up the scoring rate, drilled to extra cover in the 11th over. After this the upper & middle order rapidly fell away to the medium-pace of Anil (4-23), leaving CDCC teetering at 72-6 in the 22nd over, and staring at a depressingly inadequate total. However, Taylor(21) joined Millar at the crease and the two built a crucial partnership which allowed CDCC to post a competitive total. Millar, the only batsman on either side to really come to terms with the conditions, eventually fell in the 35th over for an intelligently compiled, and ultimately match-winning 69, before some determined batting from the lower order, notably Nandury(12) on debut, allowed CDCC to finish on a competitive 141-9 from their 40 overs.

In reply Monks Risborough came out swinging from the hip, looking to put the CDCC bowling under pressure. Jaspreet Singh, also on debut, bowled a tight spell allowing Richie Bibby, still sulking from being made to bat 11, to attack, resulting in his claiming two wickets to ambitious strokes. However Amjad and Merban stabilised the innings, taking their team to 55-2 and seemingly building a platform for victory. In a match defining moment, Jim Deverall leapt to clutch on to an exceptional catch at mid-on as Amjad attempted to launch Taylor. Following the introduction of Mike Cutting's medium pace from the other end, the Monks Risborough batting rapidly fell away, as Cutting(4-24) and Taylor(4-20) made good use of the conditions to tear through the remaining batting, each finishing with 4 wickets and wrapping up an ultimately comfortable win.
