Match report Holyport reclaimed the John Platt trophy in a nail-biting and tense game at the memorial ground on Sunday. Skipper Taylor continued his appalling record of losing the toss and the Dean were put in on a very sticky looking wicket just minutes after a recent down pour had stopped. Despite losing Gay early the Dean got off to a flyer with Patrick Castleden ( 46) and Godwill Mamhiyo (63) teeing off in good style. However apart from some resistance from Taylor (24) wickets tumbled and in the end the Home side wee set a target of 181.
Morgan started powerfully but early wickets fell with “British Airways finest” John Smith taking two wickets and when Ragu dismissed Morgan for 39 it looked as if the trophy was coming back to Cookham. However Kelvin Baillie (70)batted really well and seemed to know exactly how to play the pitch and ably supported by Harris (32) turned the tide . Taylor bowled an excellent spell and took a quite brilliant caught and bowled to dismiss Harris and when Godwill came on taking three quick wickets the stage was set for the final over where Holyport needed 2 to win, Ragu could not quite pull it off however and Lappin hit the winning runs to the delight of the home crowd.
Skipper Taylor was magnanimous in defeat and congratulated Holyport on a game well played, He has stated publicly his relief that he will be in France this weekend and will not have to face Bigun for the inevitable inquiry until the John Platt legend has calmed down and is less likely to punch him.
