Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v Luddites on Sun 09 Jun 2013 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 238 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean posted surely their highest score in their history on Sunday as they racked up 378 for 7 in 40 overs against Luddites. It wasn't always plain sailing however as Cookham lost Ben Millar (4) and Jake Richardson (15) early on as Pervical and Pemberton found some assistance. This saw Godwill Mamhiyo and Patrick Castleden combine and the runs soon piled on. Mamhiyo was particuarly brutal while Castleden was happy to play 2nd fiddle. None of the Luddites change bowlers escaped punishment as the Zimbabwean all-rounder racked up 155 in an innings that contained seven 6s before he retired. This brought Rob Applegarth to the crease in his home debut. He made a fine start with a boundary first ball and didn't look back as he raced to 51 in little over 10 overs. Castleden eventually made his century after a deliberate go-slow ploy to delay his captain James Taylor's entry to the crease! Castleden retired on 104 which brought Taylor in, he struck a quick 19 not out while Christophers finally got some relief as he had Greg Davis and Jack Heald stumped in successive balls as Cookham's innings closed.
Stalwart seamer Lawrence Garber was handed the new ball and he quickly ran through the Luddites top order to take 3-43 in 8 overs. Heald claimed two wickets while Davis, Taylor, and Jonathan Gay each picked up a wicket each as the visitors slumped to 140 all out. Pemberton (48) and Christophers (26) provided the main resistence for them.
