Wooburn Narkovians v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI on Sun 05 Aug 2012 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 69 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean picked up a comfortable win over local rivals Wooburn Narkovians on Sunday afternoon. Despite the rain, Cookham skipper Arun Brar stuck to the usual CDCC script by choosing to bat. Cookham lost Dave Brooks early on and Simon D'Ardenne (8) hung around for a while to play second fiddle to Tom Bibby as runs were initially proving difficult to come by, thanks mainly to the canny seam bowling of Barker. The arrival of Jake Richardson changed proceedings however as he immediately began to find the boundary with ease. He smashed his way to 113 in 69 balls with 14 4s and 4 6s. Bibby's run-rate increased dramatically as well and he brought up his century in 88 balls. With this, Brar took the decision to retire both batsmen. This allowed James Taylor (15 not out) and Matt Wells-Cole (10 not out) the opportunity of a rare bat and to secure the not out as Cookham posted 280-4 from their 40 overs.
This was always likely to be an improbable run chase for Wooburn, especially once Mikey Davis (2-25) struck early on by removing Sharwa and Barker. Jonathan Gay had Cuthbert well caught by Wells-Cole at square leg and Wooburn were reeling at 9 for 3. This brought Dave Small to the crease who showed his intent early by getting off the mark with a 6 over square leg. He shared a partnership of 99 with Dolan (17), who fell to the bowling of Liam Haines just after drinks. Haines also accounted for Small eventually but not before he had struck a brutal 91 from only 50 balls. This brought Hall to the crease but he received little support from his team-mates as Cookham picked up wickets at regular intervals. Dan Matthews (2-41) picked up two in his last over while Brar and Wells-Cole also claimed a wicket apiece as Wooburn were bowled out for 211. Hall finishing on an impressive 73 not out.
