Royal Ascot v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI on Sun 15 Apr 2012 at 1.30pm
Match was Abandoned Rain

Match report The rain was ultimately the winner in Cookham Dean's first Sunday game of the 2012 season away at Royal Ascot but there were some encouraging signs for the season with both bat and ball including a hat-trick for 15 year old Ben Green!

Royal Ascot won the toss and on a green top unsurprisingly Cookham were put into bat. Their innings got off to a poor start however as Mike Cutting was trapped LBW by Gihan for just 2. Jake Richardson made a breezy 32, which included two 6s, in a stand of 42 with Dave Brooks (13). They both departed in quick succession, however to leave Cookham wobbling at 59-3. This saw Bajan all-rounder Kayode Pantophlet and Justin Paveley combine well to rebuild The Dean's innings. Pantophlet got off the mark with a 6 and he and Paveley, in his first game for the club, ran aggressively and put away the bad balls in tricky batting conditions. Paveley eventually fell for a well made 44. Pantophlet brought up his half-century in only his second game for the club before being caught and bowled acrobatically by Wiggett for 60. Jonathan Gay (25 not out) and the skipper Arun Brar (11 not out)
struck some lusty blows in the latter overs to enable the visitors to declare at 193-5.

With some rain falling and the temperature continuing to drop, some Cookham players took to the field in some somewhat unorthodox attire.

After a fairly uneventful start to the innings, an outstanding over from Ben Green suddenly changed proceedings. First he had A Muneer caught by Mike Cutting as he skied one straight up in the air. Cutting eventually held on at the third attempt! Green then trapped Barter plumb in front to leave him on a hat-trick! Number 4 Wendsley took a wild swing at a ball just outside off-stump which clattered into his stumps off his inside edge to send the Cookham fielders into a frenzy! This left Ascot 24-3 and hopes of a Cookham win so suddently dramatically enhanced. The weather was ultimately to be their undoing though as only one further wicket fell, stalwart James Taylor snaring his first victim of the season, with Ascot on 59-4 with around 15 overs left.
