Datchet 4 v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 21 Jul 2012 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean 3rd XI strolled to a comfortable win over Datchet 4s at Home Park. With the weeks of wet weather in the build up to the game Cookham skipper Jonathan Gay had no hestitation in asking Datchet to bat when winning the toss. Cookham quickly made early inroads with Isaac Richardson bowling the hard-hitting Virmani for 6 and James Taylor (making his 3rd XI debut) bowling Datchet skipper Wilson for 14. Mark Jones had Bagul safely pouched in the gully by Mike Cutting and the home side we struggling at 33 for 3.
Stamp (15) and Beeby (26) rebuilt for Datchet with Beeby counter-attacking with a couple of 6s over square leg. Taylor ended Beeby's stay though with the score on 74 which triggered a dramatic collapse. Adam Barratt had Stamp caught at square leg and followed this up with two more wickets in the over. Mynott was run out for a duck and Angus Eglington picked up his first senior wicket as Datchet crumbled to 81 all out.
Jonathan Gay and Mike Cutting got The Dean off to a decent start as they moved to 26-0 in 5 overs. Datchet quickly realised the game was up and rotated their bowlers regularly with some interesting results. Cutting fell for 19, chipping a double bouncer to cover, further proof that the worst deliveries really can be the most dangerous! Gay and Andy Murdoch played watchfully to guide Cookham to within touching distance of victory before Murdoch left a ball that clipped his off-stump with only 4 more runs required. There were no further scares though and Cookham picked up an easy 8 wicket victory.
