Cookham Dean Cricket Club 3rd XI v Ickenham 4 on Sat 19 May 2012 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean 3rd XI picked up a comfortable nine wicket win over 9b new-boys Ickenham 4s in The Dean's first home game at The Odney Club.
Cookham won the toss and chose to bat on a green wicket. This soon looked to be a good decision as Marner was given out lbw off the bowling of Mark Jones in the third over of the game. Dan Matthews had I Summersfield well caught at square leg by Seth Munn and Jones picked up three more in quick succession to leave Ickenham reeling at 23 for 5. O'Donoghue (35) and Wheatley (18) provided some resistance but O'Donoghue tried one big shot too many and holed out to Shaun Miller at deep square leg. Jones picked up his 5th wicket soon after to end up with figures of 5-24 off 15 overs. Munn and Mark Anderson helped to wrap up the tail with Bal (14) and Dawson (14) both making double figures to take the visitors to 103 all out.
Cookham's innings got off to a great start with Jonathan Gay taking ten runs off the first over. He and Mark Kirton put on 34 in 10 overs before Gay was bowled by a delivery that cut back into him to bowl him for 20. This brought debutant Shaun Miller to the crease who struck the ball brutally around the ground, including two straight 6s. He and Kirton (31 not out) eased their side to victory in 22.3 overs with Miller finishing on 45 not out. Next up for Cookham Dean is a tricky away game against Eastcote 4s.
