Cookham Dean Cricket Club 3rd XI v Marlow 3 on Sat 07 May 2011 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 8 runs
Match report
The 3rds made it three successive league wins against their near neighbours, Marlow 3s at North Maidenhead on Saturday. On a damp wicket, Cookham were asked to bat first by the Marlow skipper but made a solid start as Jonathan Gay and Matt Wells-Cole put on 67 for the first wicket in unfamiliar opening roles. Roger Evans chipped in with a quick 33 as Wells-Cole brought up his first senior 50. His dismissal for 78, caught behind off a top edge, sparked a remarkable collapse however as Jack Turner with 12 not out was the only batsman outside the top three to make double figures. At the half way stage, 178 looked a competitive score, but Cookham were disappointed that it wasn't thirty or forty runs more.
The Dean chipped away at the Marlow batting with wickets falling regularly as the visitors looked unlikely to threaten the target at 100-6. A solid knock from Cleave however looked set to guide his side to victory as he and Shahid brought Marlow to within 20 of victory. When Shahid was bowled off his inside edge of Powell, Cookham had an opening and when Cleave was the 8th wicket to fall for 72 with 10 still needed for victory, Cookham were suddenly favourites again. These wickets fell rapidly with Jack Turner claiming the final one to give his side victory by eight runs. Mark Powell was the pick of the bowling with 3-17.
