1ST TEAM CLOSE ON PROMOTION

14 Aug 2011

The 1st team took a huge stride towards promotion on Saturday, as they comfortably defeated Wokingham 2s, for much of the season their nearest rivals, whilst results elsewhere went very much in their favour.

The Dean lost the toss, with Wokingham forced to depart from their usual strategy, and bat first in order to try and inflict a large point swing on their visitors. Sav Gandesha (5-29) ensured Wokingham could only post 160, which never troubled the Dean as they cruised home by seven wickets, with two overs remaining. Rory Millar again top-scored with 53.

The 2s crushed an understrength Fleet 2s by more than 200 runs, sparking talk of an "accidental promotion". Having spent most of the season anxiously looking over their shoulders at the teams below them, a well-timed run of form has seen them move to within 17 points of second, albeit they are still in seventh place. The Fleet victory was inspired by fifties for Rob Mettler and Arun Brar, and a 4 wicket haul for Richard Bibby.

The 3rd team went down by a hundred runs at Hillingdon Manor, with a four-wicket haul for 14 year-old Ben Green the main positive from Dean's perspective.
