Cookham Dean Cricket Club News story

Young guns lead the way for CDCC

28 Jun 2011

Yesterday evening (27th June 2011) saw Cookham Dean U17's, managed by Jonathan Gay and coached by Arun Brar, carry on there imperious record in the league with a win over Slough. In what could be only described as a slobber knocker of a game, which had it all, twists, turns and poor umpiring decisions, the dean finally got over the line after a few scares. Slough batted first, on a very good batting track but mustered only 123, a below par score. Ben Green and Isaac Richardson opened the bowling, Green showed great control with the new ball and picked up a wicket, Richardson was steady. In the middle overs, Slough did not get away and captain goldenballs, Patrick Castleden led the way with the ball with 3 wickets.

In reply Dean got off to a great start with the 'Big' Bertie and Castleden leading the way, however, a mix up with the running caused Bertie to be run-out which bought Jake Turner to the crease, who with Patrick seemed to be leading Dean to the promise land of a 3rd win, however umpire Jake Richardson gave 2 appalling decisions leaving The Dean in dissaray.

Isaac Richardson and the ever impressive Ben Green saw The Dean home leaving them looking at a spot in the finals and with Oli Dandridge and few other players to return the Dean have the best chance of winning sliverware with an U17 side for a long time.

Following the victory cdcc.co.uk got a quick word with Ben Millar, CDCC Saturday 1st XI skipper and here is what he had to say: ' It was a good win, I came for the 2nd innings but keeping a team like Slough down to that total on a track like that was mighty impressive stuff. The balance of the team looks good and with the input of Gay Gay and Mr Brar these crop of players are well onto the way being one of, if not the best U17 side that Cookham Dean has ever had in its history. The future looks bright for us, with players like Ben Green, Dan Matthews and Miles I can see us doing very well for the forseeable future. Now if you don't mind I have to go for a team meal at the Harvester to celebrate the win'
