An unbeaten 10th wicket stand of 35 between
Paul Taylor and
Daniel Matthews saw CDCC's 3rd XI claim an unlikely victory by one wicket over Division 7 side Boyne Hill 3s.
Boyne Hill batted first and posted a solid 204-4 from their 40 overs. The bowlers stuck to their tasks well with
Roger Evans and
Jonathan Gay the only bowlers to pick up wickets.
In response, Cookham lost early wickets but a 5th wicket partnership of 95 between 16 year olds
Oli Dandridge and
Pranav Pillai guided their side to within 40 of victory with 10 overs left. When Dandridge was caught on the boundary for 86, a flurry of wickets fell and it was left to Taylor and Matthews to finish the job for their team off the final ball of the match!
The 2nds claimed a solid draw against Boyne Hill 2s at Ricketts Field. Boyne Hill batted first, making 235-9.
Andrew Pett took 5-50 while there were two wickets for
James Taylor.
Cookham's reply started strongly with
Arun Brar and
Dave Brooks putting on 100 for the first wicket. Brooks eventually went for 69 while
Jake Richardson looked to push his side towards a victory before he fell for 48. Former Cookham bowler James Larkin was the pick of the Hill attack but it was left to
Mark Anderson and
Isaac Richardson to comfortably bat out a draw as the 2s ended on 216-8.
The 1st XI put up a decent display against Division 2 Boyne Hill 1sts. Boyne Hill batted first and
Chris Nunn immediately made inroads, dismissing Ashraf for a duck. Along with
Aaron O'Donoghue and
Richard Bibby, Nunn helped to reduce the home side to four wickets down early on. Australian overseas player Whittingham and former CDCC player Imran Butt however pushed their side towards a decent total with Whittingham making 73 and Butt 93. Boyne Hill ended 237 all out with Nunn taking four wickets and O'Donoghue picking up three.
Cookham's reply got off to a poor start as they lost
Jon Stewart,
Tom Bibby and
Patrick Castleden early on. Captain
Ben Millar (62) along with Nunn (38) looked to rebuild the run chase towards some respectability.
Clive Lambden briefly threated a late victory charge but his dismissal for 48 ended any real prospects of a win and Cookham were all out for 221.
Sunday's game with Reading Lawyers ended in a draw after Cookham made 213-4 in their allocated time.
Dave Brooks carrying his bat for 72 and
Jake Richardson's 65 being the mainstays of the innings.
Isaac Richardson and
John Smith quickly reduced the visitors to 12-3. Smith taking a wicket with his first ball for the club! The middle order resisted firmly though and two late wickets for
Robin Churchill saw the game drawn with Reading Lawyers 187 for 7.
