WEEKEND ROUND UP
25 May 2010
The weekend saw mixed results for the Dean with a win, a draw and a defeat for the Saturday sides while the Sunday side scraped a win following a batting collapse.
The 1st team claimed a creditable draw against Chenies and Latimer. Cookham batted first and racked up 261-4 with Tom Bibby making 82 and Clive Lambden continuing his fine form with 51. Jake Richardson also chipped in with a quick fire 45. Chenies never looked likely to win and made 182-7, Rory Millar claiming three wickets with his off-spin.
The 2nds finally got their season up and running with a tense six run win over British Airways. Cookham batted first and on a wicket that kept low at times could only manage 159. Patrick Castelden batted well to make his first league 50 for the club. Once again, Richard Bibby was the pick of the 2nd XI bowling as he claimed 5-25 as his side claimed a confidence boosting victory. Isaac Richardson also bowled well as he claimed 2-16.
A youthful 3rd XI were on a receiving end of a comprehensive defeat against Farnham Common 3s. Cookham lost the toss and unsurprisingly were put into the field as Farnham racked up 276-6 before declaring their innings two overs early. There were some encouraging performances from the three Under 15s in the side, each making their 3rd XI debuts, Richard Cubitt, Oli Dandridge and Matt Wells-Cole. To chase down such a score was always likely to a difficult task and despite Tim Hipgrave's best efforts as he struck a rapid 85, Cookham slumped to 174 all out.
Sunday saw the Sunday 1sts claim a narrow win over RNVR with Tom Bibby once again in the runs. RNVR batted first and made 211-3, Cookham's run chase looked comfortable with Bibby making 89 and Jake Richardson 48. A batting collapse occurred however and it was left to Andy Partridge to continue his fine form to make 20 not out and guide his side to a two wicket victory.
