INDOOR VICTORIES AT LAST
29 Jan 2009
After a dismal run of form of 9 straight defeats, the indoor 'B' side finally got a couple of wins at the expense of both Welford Park and Goring. The win has helped relieve the increasing pressure on young skipper Rory Millar, who despite leading the side to a 4th place finish last time out, has found the going alot tougher this year.
On Sunday, both wins were comfortable, with Christian Austin and Tom Bibby retiring on 25 in both games. Isaac Richardson also bowled well with good opening spells in both games, taking a couple of wickets in both.
Despite the run of poor form, the side has not played badly and have been unlucky to end on the losing side in many tight encounters. They have also managed to throw two games away, where with only a couple of overs left in both games, a defeat seemed impossible!! Andrew Millar has been the most consistent batsman and fielder, scoring runs and taking catches in pretty much every game, justifying his growing reputation as an indoor specialist. On the bowling front, 14-year old Isaac Richardon has bowled well as has Mike Cutting.
Due to the lack of keepers available to play, John Gay (snr) has donned the gauntlets on a number of occasions, despite having never done it in his long, successful career. His fine performances behind the stumps have lead to rumours linking him with the Saturday third team wicketkeeper for next season.
With 4 games to play, the B team hope that these victories can be built upon, so that the side can move up the table and hopefully secure a respectable mid-table finish.
