CHRISTMAS LUNCH FOR ZIMBABWE

10 Dec 2019

Dear Club Members

We wanted to write to you to let you know of a great effort by CDCC Member and massive supporter of the club Saskia Richards (mum of Taine), which is very much supported by the club, and which we would be delighted if people wanted to participate in. The club will be matching contributions made, up to a certain limit.

As many will be aware, we have benefited from the services of three popular Zimbabwean cricketers (Godwill Mamhiyo, Tapiwa Mufudza and Herbert Chikomba) as Overseas Player-Coaches over the last decade, and so we have a particular affinity to the country. In 2015, we even hosted a CDCC XI vs Zimbabwe XI Exhibition match.

Below is the note from Saskia with more details. Payments can be sent to Sort Code 09-07-21, Account Number 64459405 (please do also reply to this email, if you have donated)

Thank you

CDCC Committee

As you know I am from Zimbabwe and follow things there quite closely. Things are pretty dire for most people, with no running water in large parts, and 18-20  hours of electricity cuts( imagine the hardships of trying to work).

Inflation is not being measured anymore, but is over 300%.

See BBC Hardtalk documentary recently (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07wnvx0). Any money earned devalues instantly, and millions of people cannot make ends meet, let alone buy food.

My idea is to try and provide some of the cricket community there (who are still in a state of flux), with some food parcels, so they can get together and have a decent meal for Christmas.

There is absolutely no obligation/need to assist with this, but I thought I would put the thought out there. I plan on ordering on about the 21st of December

There is  a local business man who has set up a small company supplying and delivering food - most locally produced-hampers in Harare. I have used him a couple of times and have been very impressed.

He has a Facebook page, which can be found by searching ‘Fresh In a Box’, and also a website: https://freshinabox.co.zw/#/shop

This allows people from The Diaspora, like me, to try and put food on tables in Harare.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this, and I absolutely understand if this is not something the club want to be part of.
