DEAN REACH SECOND CONSECUTIVE JULIAN CUP FINAL

29 Jun 2018

We bounced back from Sunday's disappointing National Village Cup exit with a narrow three wicket win against North Maidenhead in the Julian Cup semi final at Maidenhead & Bray on Tuesday evening.

This is our second consecutive season reaching the final of the midweek T20 competiton and we will meet the winners of Stoke Green vs Boyne Hill on Tuesday 17th July.  Last year we came agonisingly close to winning the tournament for the first time since 1985 so we hope to go one better this time around!

On Tuesday evening, it was tough work to begin with as North Maidenhead raced to 50-0 after 5 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat.  However we recovered well with Simon Foster (3-23), Wasim Maharoof (2-19) and Sim Mangat (0-22) all bowling economical spells in the middle and late overs.  North Maidenhead finished their 20 overs on a very competitive 148-9.

Chris Marrow scored a quickfire 43 in reply to get the run chase off to a great start but after his departure we slumped from 89-2 to 109-6 and the prospects of victory were very much in the balance.  Rob Mettler (24) and Yasir Qureshi (22*) then came together at the crease and batted with great responsibility to take the team to the brink of victory.  Mettler departed with three runs required so it was left to Qureshi to finish the job off in style to see the team over the line with three wickets in hand and two overs remaining.
