WINNING START TO SEASON CONTINUES

12 Jun 2018

The first eleven continue to set the pace in Division 1 of the Thames Valley League whilst the seconds have also gained significant momentum in Division 4b with four wins on the bounce.  There have also been victories in both the National Village Cup and Julian Cup competitions so with a third of the season gone, things are currently looking very bright for the club.

First XI

The winning start has continued with three further wins recorded against Slough 2s, North Maidenhead and Gerrards Cross. The unbeaten start sees us top of the table after six games and looking in a good position to challenge for the title.

In the game away at Slough 2s, we posted 193 and bowled the hosts out for 175 in reply after some late resistance to complete an 18 run victory.  It was a good effort from the spinners with Sim Mangat on his first team return taking three wickets while overseas Sahan Nanayakkara and Yasir Qureshi both took two.

The following game at home to local neighbours North Maidenhead saw another superb bowling effort to comfortably defend 180.  Chris Marrow (58) top scored with his first half century of the league season while Jonny Parker contributed with a very useful 27 batting at 9 to help the side up to a competitive total.  Again it was the spinners that did the damage with North Maidenhead being bowled out for 111 - Sahan Nanayakkara took 3-20 while Yasir Qureshi and Sim Mangat both got two.

Last week saw the winning run continue away at Gerrards Cross with an emphatic 7-wicket victory in the first of the timed games of the season.  The home side were bowled out for 110 with Wasim Ahmed leading the attack taking 6-59 in 21 overs.  He was ably supported by Sahan Nanayakkara who took four more wickets to take his season tally to 19.  The runs were knocked off with relative ease, Nadir Mehmood scoring an unbeaten half century and Chris Marrow contributing with 39.

We entertain Falkland this Saturday before hosting Cove the following week in what promises to be a fascinating top of the table clash.

Second XI

The second eleven have now won four league games in a row, building on the convincing win at Princes Risborough with victories against Amersham 3s, Beaconsfield 2s and Hillingdon Manor.  We now sit in second place behind Wraysbury who are unbeaten and looking like the team to beat.

We made hard work of a low run chase at home to Amersham 3s, winning by 4 wickets after bowling the visitors out for only 109.  Sav Gandesha returned with 4-15, while Sohil Mangat and Toby Hill took three and two wickets respectively.  Jake Richardson top scored in reply with 39 but it was Sohil Mangat's composed 28 not out that helped see the side home.

The following game saw us win by 123 runs away at Beaconsfield 2s.  We posted 235-4 in our 45 overs with Rory Millar carrying his bat with 78 not out. Rob Mettler (36) and Arun Brar (43*) also batted well to help us up to a strong total.  We took regular wickets in reply which prevented the host from ever getting going and they were eventually bowled out for 112.  Wickets were spread around but Wasim Maharoof, down from the first team, impressed with 3-30.

The teams fourth consecutive win came at home to Hillingdon Manor by 78 runs.  It was a hard fought win and arguably the teams best of the season.  It was largely set up by a blistering partnership between Sohil Mangat (90*) and Aaron O'Donoghue (42*) towards the end of the innings to help the team reach 260-6 in the 52 overs.  Hillingdon at times looked to be in the game in reply but an inspired spell by Arun Brar (4-31) saw us bowl them out for 182 with just a few overs to spare.

The team travel to North Maidenhead 2s this Saturday before another away trip to Slough 3s the following Saturday.

Third XI

The third teams up and down start to their Division 7b campaign has continued with defeats by Wooburn Narks 2s and Slough 5s either side of a great narrow victory against Datchet 3s.

Against Wooburn Narks 2s, we limped to 140 all out after they posted 255-4 in 45 overs.

The win away at Datchet 3s was by two runs, the opposition finishing on 195-9 in response to our 197-4.  Tom Wells Cole batted through the innings to finish on 96 not out while Christian Austin (4-36) and Ammar Ayub (3-27) both impressed with the ball to see the team home.

Last week saw the team fall to a 5-wicket defeat at home to Slough 5s.  Clive Lambden top scored with 37 as we were bowled out for 124.  It then took the opposition almost 45 overs to knock off the total proving that it was a tough day for the batsman.

This week the third eleven travel to Ickenham 3s where we will look for a positive result to help move up the table.

Village Cup

We have reached the last 32 of the National Village Cup after convincing wins against Binfield and Peppard Stoke Row in the third and fourth rounds respectively.  We now travel to Liphook & Ripsley from Hampshire on Sunday 24th June.

Julian Cup

In the first round of the Julian Cup, we hosted Littlewick Green and ran out winners by 165 runs.  There were useful contributions down the order as we posted a mammoth total of 237-5 inside 20 overs and a solid bowling performance saw us bowl them out for 72 in reply.  We travel to Taplow in the quarter finals of the competition on Tuesday 19th June.
