Cookham Dean Cricket Club News story

FOUR WINS OUT FOUR FOR THE DEAN

18 Aug 2008

Cookham Dean had a hugely successful weekend as they claimed four victories from as many games.

Most importantly, the First team kept their promotion hopes alive as they survived a batting collapse to win against local rivals Wooburn Narkovians in the final over by three wickets. Ben Millar top scored with 80 while earlier on there were wickets for Imran Butt, Pres Patel, Christian Austin, Sawan Gandesha and Amit Patel.

In a surreal game of cricket, the 2nd team won comfortably by six wickets against rock-bottom Caversham and Redingensians 2s. After turning up late, Caversham batted first and in a kamikaze display of batting were bowled out for 146 in only 23 overs. Nick Borland and Richard Bibby each claimed three wickets. In reply, Cookham knocked off the runs in 22 overs with Ollie Freeman making 50 and Graham Wilson 49 not out.

On Sunday, the 1st team game against White Waltham saw a welcome return to form for Paul Farnborough as he smashed a hundred batting at number seven. Tom Bibby also contributed with a half century as Cookham posted a formidable total. White Waltham were never really in the hunt as the wickets were shared around.

The Sunday 2nds picked up a comfortable 38 run victory against Kai Dragons. The Dean posted 218-5 from their 40 overs with half centuries from Chris Kellaway and Rory 'Luke Wright' Millar. A hostile spell of seam bowling from Dan Roberts (2-17) meant that the visitors were never likely to threaten Cookham's total. The wickets were shared around as nine bowlers were used, Kai Dragons eventually finishing on 180-8 in the fading light.
