WINNING START TO THE SEASON

26 Apr 2017

Despite the current chilly conditions, the club has managed to win our first four friendlies of the season!

On 15th April we beat Berkshire League club Peppard Stoke Row by 11 runs after posting 211. New players Chris Marrow and Tom Fray made undefeated scores of 68 and 39 respectively. Rob Mettler and Faaez Shamsi were the pick of the bowlers with three wickets each.

On Easter Sunday we travelled to Kidmore End and won by 47 runs. Yash Rastogi made a patient 73 while Chris Marrow struck an explosive 59 not out to take the score up to 266 for 7. Aaron O'Donoghue then demolished the top order with 7-40 in a pacey spell of bowling to leave Kidmore End's chase in tatters. An impressive 133 however from their keeper batsman Zach Leonard meant that things started to get a bit nervous for our fielders as he found the boundary with regularity. A good spell of off-spin from Kieran Devereux wrapped the game up with Kidmore End all out for 219.

On Saturday we managed a one run win against Wargrave. Greg Davis made 60 as we posted 210 for 6 and some interesting death bowling from Simon D'Ardenne saw Wargrave get to within two runs of victory after requiring 15 runs from the final over. He kept his nerve though to snare the final wicket!

Sunday saw the 1st XI competing in the Berkshire Cup v West Reading. Chris Marrow's 133 took us to 272 for 6 and he was ably supported by Ben Millar (54) and Kurran Mangat (33). West Reading response never really got going and their middle order collapsed to the off-spin of Yasir Qureshi (4-53) and Sim Mangat (3-24). Number seven Tariq (47*) and number 10 Iqbal (42) made things interesting however before Simon Foster (3-42) picked up the final two wickets to bowl the Berkshire League side out for 207.
